Ethical
The US has done many of things through the media. Distracting us from everyday crisis, entertaining us, and giving us information. Surely without the media, we would have all been ill informed about anything that goes on around the country or even outside of the country or we could all be dead because of the warning broadcasts that won't be sent out. The interesting part of the media is that it uses the art of rhetoric to approach us. At many times they use the ethical rhetoric. They give us our taste of a person's appearence. Naturally, a show with "model-like figures and facial structures" are a high time rating show. It's not their faults they use these certain types of appearences. They're just appealing to the average mind. The media shows an appealing image to our mind. But, how does the media capture the attention of the public that doesn't know what channel to look to or even what to look for. Since subliminal messaging has been explicitley banned, they use public advertisements the best way they can. Thus, using rhetorical strageties to abrubtly capture our attentions through the usage of bright colors and certain words that are appealing.

Hey Steve,
Great blog. But Im a bit confused as to know if you meant either propaganda, such as things like Uncle Sam , or like the news and stuff. I guess in the end its all mass media. I agree on how you say that a lot of things in T.V are there to entertain but from what?
I think the U.S is very creative on how they show us what they want us to see and how they deliver it to us.
Great work,
Steve
Dear Steve,
Media has its advantages, but they also have there disadvantages. Many times the media doesn’t show us much of the information; they try to cover up, or simply try to put an image in our heads as if things are okay, when there not. Especially when it comes to graphic images, but also do we want to see how the world we live in is so cruel, many people don’t want to see those things, while others do. I agree with Jenn, because the US is very creative the catch the audiences attention, because many of us have different interest, but yet they find a way to grasp our attention. I really liked your blog, but I would have liked if you would have showed also a negative side of the media.
That is the purpose of the new media: to distract.
It's as if we're all puppies and the media throws us bones in the wrong directions.
If you ever watch telenovellas (Spanish soap operas) the leading actors and actresses are almost as white as possible. Meaning they have pale skin, light hair, and don't really look Hispanic.
Honestly the media is really biased. It portrays women as thin, pale sexual objects. It protrays men as big, strong sexual objects.
Plus, the more flashing lights and colors present in an ad or whatever, the more attention it recieves. Does that make us then goldfish?
Dear Steve,
I agree with you and this topic you spoke about reminds me of the essay prompt we once had to work on for AP. It is true that the media has played a huge part in our society and sometimes its good and sometimes it isn't. By this I mean they do inform us and warn us, but sometimes they don't give the full story of how things happened kind of manipulating our minds. Something that you stated about how media gets our attention I never really thought about it like you did. One of the things that I've notice is that when they use advertisement like to watch certain shows they give previews of parts that get our attention making us want to see it. For example, a new episode of a reality show shows parts of drama or violence that is going to happened making the audience not want to miss the action and watch the new episode when it comes out. Media we see it all around and they do use a lot of rhetorical appeals to get the publics attention towards certain things. This to me shows how easily a person can get convinced don't you?
Hey There,
You did a great job in your blog and i want to congratulate you for doing an awesome job. I do have to agree with most of the people because the media is both bad and good. It is good in the sense that keeps us informed, but it doesn't do well when it bothers other people. I don't remember exactly, but in one of the AP prompts it asked to synthesize sources and support whether or not the media is good or bad. I don't know if you remember, but most of the data showed that the media overall overwhelm us rather than helping us. Moreover, I think that is the job of the media and therefore shouldn't be either positive or negative.
Great Job and keep the good work.
Edwin
"The media is our greatest weapon"
Seems pretty right to me. When a message wants to be passed through to the citizens of this country propaganda is used. This is visual rhetoric, the persuasive images we see all have one goal in mind. So they all appeal to the taget audience and become the messengers. That's why when something like soldiers are needed, propaganda methods, such as Uncle Sam, are used. The only reason we know of things is because of propaganda, which uses rhetoric as well.
Hi Steve,
"Distracting us from everyday crisis, entertaining us, and giving us information."
I do not like this sentence. It present supporting details however, if you want to convey a negative vision of the media, do not add "giving us information," that only makes them look better and creates uneasiness throughout your piece.
Your grammer can also need some work. Try and read it over before you post it up.
Do you remember at peace jam, where Jody mentioned that BBC is more informative and in Europe rather than America?
Your topic is good but much to dense for such a small entry. I recommend that you expand more on your thoughts and further build on it.
